Original Pottery by Nkechi Diallo
The original pottery shown here (unless marked SOLD) is available for purchase through this site.
I use the term “pottery” instead of “ceramics,” to describe my clay work, as the term conjures handmade, more timeless methods of clay-to-kiln art rather than modern or mass production techniques. I want to celebrate the human touch on the clay and honor the living qualities of the material. My pottery has an intentionality in the imperfections, such as a fingerprint in the glaze or an undulating surface in the rim of a bowl. These irregularities point to human interaction with the clay and produce truly one-of-a-kind works.
Each piece of pottery is handmade, dried to bisque, fired, glazed, and re-fired at cone10, which is the hottest kiln. The glazes chosen are food-safe and hold water. These pieces may be used in the oven, microwave, fridge or freezer safely.
