Title: Fun & Games
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
This painting captures the artist’s middle son when he was young, bungee jumping at a county fair. The Fun and Games sign at the bottom of the composition conjures the saying “life isn’t all fun & games,” and the background of the sky with the bungee cords exiting the top and left sides of the picture plane might remind the viewer of the saying “don’t let the fear of the fall stop you from flying.” As a mother of 3 Black sons in America, the artist knows the feeling of life being riddled with landmines for her children and holds the desire for them to fly high above all that threatens to cause pain and suffering. Parenting is a combination of worry and hope, love and guidance, risk and reward, and every human spirit desires to fly high.
Brush-varnished with UVL gloss.
