To celebrate my completion of the University of Arizona’s Master Gardener program, I started a series of still life paintings focused on the vegetables and fruits that I grow here in Arizona. This is the third painting in the series, which shows a large Italian eggplant paired with a narrow Japanese eggplant in the bottom right corner. These fruits are shown with the plant’s leaves and flower for botanical context. Also called aubergine, brinjal, or guinea squash, the eggplant’s scientific name is Solanum melongena, and it belongs to the nightshade family.
This piece is painted on an 8×10″ canvas and sealed with a gloss varnish. It is framed in a wide Renaissance-style gold frame. Frame included in the purchase. Canvas signed on the front and back.
