Description

Title: Trespasser

An original Cut Paper work on stretched canvas by Rachel, using over 250 small pieces of paper, adhered to primed canvas with acrylic medium and coated with satin UVL varnish to prevent color fading. Sides of canvas painted for modern display, as shown.

This piece, created in March 2021, evokes thoughts of boundaries, land ownership, searching, loneliness, and winter. The rock barricade in the foreground suggests that the viewer is the land owner, spotting a trespasser, from behind the barricade, but this could also just be a pile of rocks that the viewer could be hiding behind as the actual trespasser, while the figure in the snow is the land owner. The question arises whether anyone has rights to exclusively own part of the planet, how these rights are bestowed, and what boundaries exist for -whether between nations or neighbors.
