Inspiration: This piece is part of a 2018 series of collages drawing inspiration from the universal elements of light, water, air and earth. In “Thin Air,” a woman gazes in motion toward a large open window. Her arm becomes a wing, which in silhouette is the shape of a horse’s head. To the right of her, a lion runs at full speed, and to the left and above, a person begins to step off a building, mirroring her thoughts of flight & freedom. A smaller window to her left separates her breath from a cloud. Above to the right, a man exits the corner of the image with a briefcase, and an owl perches with a dead mouse in its mouth. In the mane of the lion, an owl face is repeated. The title, “Thin Air” is a starting point to interpret the surreal juxtapositions and mortality imagery.
