This piece, created in April 2020, is a statement about the pandemic situation with COVID-19 this year. In the midst of a global plague, many people have been under stay-home orders or “shelter in place” orders. The people in the crowd come from different countries (several different magazines to piece together a vast crowd). On the right wall, thoughts and questions about faith and existence are sketched, representing things that go through the mind when in isolation. The child represents the experience of millions during the quarantine measures, cancellation of schools, and other social distancing. The pajamas and room are universal, as if he could be in any country, though the words on the wall are in the English language. The small set of cards and empty cup (perhaps tea, cocoa or some other beverage that has been consumed) represent activities and consumption that are scaled back to a minimum. Other interpretations of this piece, beyond the circumstance of the coronavirus pandemic, could be the feeling of isolating as a means to escape society, racism, or other threats even during more typical seasons of life.
