This interpretive drawing of Ruby Bridges emphasizes hope and courage. Ruby slippers conjure thoughts of hope, liberation and self-determination, while the red flower in her hair symbolizes respect and courage. Children experiencing pain, conflict or trauma often fantasize about escaping to a more welcoming, loving and supportive situation, This drawing is not only a way to honor the work of Ruby Bridges but also is a commentary on the ongoing struggle for Black children in America today, and a wish for hope, liberation and the courage of self-determination for every child experiencing racism, pain and conflict.
