This bas relief sculpture is made from the last of Rachel’s childhood elk hides (the family ate elk from the mountain during her childhood). The sculpture is created by arranging a mold form on a wooden panel with clay and found objects, then soaking the hide in a hardening solution, and finally stretching the wet raw hide over the form in small increments by nailing it to the wood. The surface is then stained with acrylic wash and finished with a small bit of gold leaf paint. (Please see more below.)
Mounts on wall with small wires sewn by hand to the back of the sculpture.
