Title: Out of Time
Medium: Cut paper on Canvas
Size of Original: 16×20
An original Cut Paper Painting on canvas by Rachel, using small pieces of up-cycled magazine paper, adhered in small pieces to canvas and varnished with UVLS to prevent fading. Framed with a wooden frame for beautiful wall display.
At first glance, this seems to be merely a moonlight scenic view, with people recording the setting sun on their phone screens on a hillside overlooking a small maritime city below. But, there is much more to the image than just beauty. The icebergs loom on the horizon and float in the water, suggesting extreme cold. How long does it take you to see the drowning person? Perhaps longer than she has left. This is a commentary about society’s distracted state, viewing life through phone screens and sometimes taking too long to develop compassion or see a need to be able to give any useful assistance.
As with all my art, other interpretations are always welcome.
