Title: How to Change the World in 9 Easy Steps
Medium: Cut paper on Canvas
Size of Original: 16×20, Framed size: 19×23″
An original Cut Paper work on canvas by Rachel, using small pieces of up-cycled magazine paper, adhered to canvas and varnished with UVLS to prevent fading. Framed with a modern golden-bronze frame for beautiful wall display.
The title of this piece is partly in irony, since changing the world is anything but easy and there is no how-to manual for doing so. However, small and sustainable steps are sometimes the most effective in setting into motion larger institutional changes. The boy holds a sphere, wrapping it in string with each successive frame, and in the final one a subtle outline of the continent of Africa emerges. This signifies that part of the long-term solution for humankind is to return to and honor our common origins in Africa, healing the past and building a collectively brighter future together.
As with all art, various interpretations of my images are welcome.
