Ground Breaking: original handmade cut paper collage fine art by Rachel Dolezal.
Original art is made from recycled magazine paper with intricate layers of detail and imagery – the process is unique and very much like “painting” with pieces of paper. Varnished with a UVL varnish to protect the paper colors from fading with light exposure.
Original collage dimensions are 18×24″. Matted with a 3″ matt and framed in a high-quality wooden frame valued at $650.
Inspiration: This piece is part of a 2018 series of collages drawing inspiration from the universal elements of light, water, air and earth. In “Ground Breaking,” two women walk at the horizon line as an earthquake-type disaster begins. A man in the right middle of the composition moves broken ground/soil, as a child splashes in a puddle of water that is formed from a shrinking oceanside, where a container ship sits on the landlocked horizon. Breaking new ground -philosophically, socially and politically- is a messy process that involves destruction of the under-layers of the old ways, which is illustrated through metaphor in this piece of art.
**Due to the large size of this original art and heaviness of the frame & glass and the variables of cost to ship to different zipcodes, any shipping/packing/insurance cost beyond the flat rate of $10 (which will automatically be charged during checkout) will be billed separately upon shipment.
